What are the benefits of dermal fillers?
When you age, your body’s collagen production slows down which results in skin laxity and fine lines and wrinkles. Some dermal filler products, when injected, can stimulate new collagen fibres within the skin to further enhance the plump and youthful appearance.
Dermal fillers are made from Hyaluronic acid, a product naturally found in the human body. Hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times it's weight in water, once filler is injected into the face it starts to draw water from surrounding tissue. As water is attracted to the dermal filler it begins revolumizing and hydrating the treated area.
At enhanceme lab, our dermal filler products work to naturally turn back the clock, encouraging your body to gradually rebuild its own collagen that has been lost over time.
The dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid are naturally broken down by the body overtime. This means the fillers can last anywhere between 6-12 months - it varies between individuals as the bodies own digestion and metabolism rate can differ.
Does the dermal filler treatment hurt?
The dermal filler products we use have a small amount of lidocaine which is a numbing/anaestheic agent mixed into the hyaluronic acid. This assists in making the dermal filler treatment more comfortable and less painful.
The numbing agent works by temporarily numbing the tissue/area the filler is being layed. After a few hours the lidocaine anaesthic agent in the filler will begin to wear off and some tenderness may remain. Pain should not be present, if some pain becomes evident you can take paracetamol post treatment for comfort. However anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen are not to be taken as they may thin the blood resulting in increased bruising and swelling.
Will my regular medication affect me being able to get Dermal fillers or Anti-wrinkle treatments?
Yes, regular medication may pose a risk to the dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments. For this reason we ask a series of medical questions prior to treatment, to ensure you are well enough to undergo the injectable treatment.
For more information please book a FREE consult at enhanceme lab. We are happy to discuss any concerns you may have surrounding the health questionaire, existing medical conditions and/or medication limitations.
Are dermal fillers for men?
The use of dermal fillers used by men is just under 10%, but a recent study into cosmetic injectables shows up to 30% of men have considered some sort of cosemtic procedure and would be willing to undergo treatments. The number of males opting for cosmetic injectable treatments continues to rise. Often men are worried about looking tired and ageing, so dermal fillers are the perfect treatment to restore a youthful appearance, to achieve a chiselled and refreshed look.
Who carries out the Dermal filler and Anti-wrinkle treatments?
A registered nurse trained in cosmetic injectables will carry out a consultation that is FREE and work with you to undertsand the goals you are wanting to achieve. A treatment plan will be developed and you can decide to move forward with treatment or you are welcome to go away and thing about it after your consult and rebook in the future.
During the consultation a series of medical and health questions will be asked to ensure you meet the criteria for undergoing the treatments we offer.
A doctor will provide a prescription for your treatment and you will be able to go ahead. Once treatment has been carried out, you will be given take home after care instructions that you can refer to.
How long does Anti-wrinkle treatment last
Anti-wrinkle treatments take 4-10 days to fully onset and to start seeing visible results, they last up to 3-4months.
Results will vary between individuals, everyone has different strength muscles, different levels of physcial activity, facial expression and facial muscle movement.
Results are expected to last 3-4months before effects of the treatment begin wearing off.
Side effects and Risks
There are potential side effects and risks to all cosmetic treatments.
Anti-wrinkle risks include having too much product injected into one area of the forehead which can cause a 'tosis' - dropping of the eye brow/eye lid. This can also occur when the Anti-wrinkle product is injected into the forehead and you do not follow after care instrauctions carefully. You must stay upright for 4 hours post treatment and not touch the area, to reduce the likelihood of the product moving or becoming displaced.
Anti-wrinkle treatments are deemed quite safe as all the medication will fully wear off after the period of 4+ months. This means any poor effects you may experience are temporary.
Dermal Filler risks include developing an occlusion - this happens when filler is injected into a blood vessel and blocks the supply of blood travelling through that vessel. If this occurs a person would experience the onset of pain, blueish discolouration or the loss of capillary refill (way to assess lack of blood circulating to that area). If an occlusion occurs you will need to have the filler dissolved to remove the blockage.
We have many vessels in our bodies and areas in particular include our face. If an occulsion was to occur there are signs and symptoms that will indictae this. Close monitoring of the site and immediate contact to your injector is recommended.
